Some Christmas cheer with E.A.D Designs

Akkk... I have had these Christmas cards and tag completed for weeks now and somehow they just got lost on my scrappy pile. Better late then never, right? I used the Christmas Sentiments 2 set for the wording on the cards and added the cute little gingerbread man from the House of Ginger set. Each only took a matter of minutes to create.

Say It With Letters'Peace' sign

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We did. It was quiet, but nice. I wish I would have been able to enjoy the season more, but it is what it is.

Here is my most recent project from Say It With Letters; a peace sign. I had a lot of ideas for this one but ended up going with a floral theme. It's such a fun shape and the possibilites are endless. Be sure to check out the dozens of other great shapes and alphas!

"Traditions" blog hop time with E.A.D Designs

It's blog hop time with E.A.D Designs and the theme this month is "Traditions". A tradition around our home is making Gingerbread Houses. I dug into my photo stash and pulled out these photos of our youngest making her first gingerbread house. I used the 'House of Ginger' set in brown on this layout. (Sorry about the awful angle/crop, but it's been snowing and the lighting has not been good.)

There is a $10.00 E.A.D Designs Gift Certificate up for grabs today!
Just visit all the DT's Blogs and leave them some love then hop back to Emily's blog and leave her some love, too.

Snowflakes from Say It With Letters

Hello! Here is my most recent project from 'Say It With Letters'; a trio of snowflakes. We've already had several inches of snow and I love it! These snowflakes are going to grace my decor for months to come. :)

I put several layers on my snowflakes. I started with a lime green coat of paint on the wood snowflake shapes, then brushed over that with a carribean blue color. Once they were dry I added some patterned paper to the front. I added silver ink to the edges and added some embossing powder and heat embossed areas on the front for dimension. I really disliked how it looked at this point... it was nothing like I had envisoned, so I brushed white paint over the front and sidesto tone it down. I finished with a few spritz's of Glimmer Mist, some glitter and I was pleasantly surpirsedwith the outcome. I finished them off some embellishments, twine and bells. They look so much better IRL. I have been wanting to try to be more "artsy" with someof my projects and I just love how these turned out. I think this is one of those projects that I am most proud of. :) It's always a great feeling to have something that you once thought was a hopeless mess turn into something you never imaged. (and I still cannot beleive that I created these. lol)

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a beautiful Thanksgiving!
Take care,
Rae

easy ornaments featuring E.A.D Designs rub ons

Just a quickie today showcasing 2 really easy ornaments I created using the 'Fun in the Snow' rub ons from E.A.D. Designs. I purchased some plain glass ornaments from Michael's, applied the rub on, added a few details and that's it. Eash took just a few minutes. There are a few crinkles in the rub ons, but this is due to them being so thick... just smooth out the best you can.

(There are snowflakes on both sides. It was a big challenge to get a decent picture.)

I hope your week is off to a great start!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
Here are two layouts I created using the gorgeous 'Twilight' collection from Pink Paislee. I only have a few scraps left now after creating the banner and these layouts.

It's been a crazy week around here. Kenny was sick on Monday and Tuesday and come to fnd out that he has shingles! They are all over his neck as well as inside his mouth and throat. Crazy! He's feeling better now that he's on meds for it, but that sure wasn't what we thought he had.

I woke up with a huge, and I mean huge swollen face on Wednesday morning. It seriously looked like I had a baseball sticking out of my mouth. It came out of the blue and boy was it painful. It turned out to be an abcess, so I had minor oral surgery yesterday morning and now I feel human again. It only looks like I have an egg there now. lol When I looked in the mirror and saw the elephant man, I couldn't help but have a new empathy for anyone who has to live with something like that daily. I had to get a prescription filled and anyone who knew me literally gasped when they saw me, but I have to wonder about those who didn't know me. What were they thinking? Not that it matters because it is what it is, but I still wonder. All of us had a few good laughs thoughat my expense, but there was nothing I could do so we might as well make the most of it.
Anyway, I hope you have a safe and fun Halloween!
Take care,
Rae

Halloween banner

I ordered some more fabulous rub ons from E.A.D. Designs and I made this Halloween banner using the 'Halloween' word from this set. I love the font... how it's a bit goth and spooky at the same time. I selected silver as the color because I wanted the lettering to be a bit subtle and shimmery. I am totally thrilled with the end result! The gorgeous Pink Paislee papers I used are also fabulous. It turned out better than I ever thought it would and that just makes my day! :)

supplies:
cardboard
spray paint
pp: Pink Paislee
rub ons: E.A.D Designs
bling: Kaiser Craft
stickers: Basic Grey

I will be back soon with a few layouts to share. I haven't scrapped this much in a long time. :)

Rae

"Jolly" letters

These "jolly" letters are my first official assignment for Say It With Letters. I wanted to capture the fun and whimsical style of the letters so I used this really cute Colorful Christmas collection from My Minds Eye.
I (well actually my sweet hubby) spray painted the letters. I cut strips of paper to 1-1/2" and then glued them on the letters. I then cut around the paper, sanded the edges and finished off with some accents. They are fun and happy and I am eager to add them to my Christmas decor.

This has been a really great week with schooling. This week has been a huge reminder as to why I decided to do this. Ashlyn has been so tired and has been sleeping in until nearly 10AM each day this week. We've had to work twice as hard to make sure that we get our daily hours in, but she has been such a trooper and has worked diligently and with so much effort. We have managed to do more than I even thought we would and have even doubled up on some lessons. She has had a lot of writing assigments this week and she has dug right in and tried her best to get her thoughts down on paper. I have helped her out a bit which has helped, but mostly just as a scribe for her. We discuss a few options and then I let her express how she would like it to come across on paper and I write it. It's been much easier to do some of the bigger and tougher writing assignments using this method and it has left more time for her to tackle some of the smaller essays and other writings. Writing is a major daily event, usually a report-style paper in at least 2-3 of the subjects as well as with all the sentences and answers from other assignments, and it's time consuming. I love the program, but I have to maintain my sanity at the same time. :)
Thanks for stopping by! Take care,
Rae

SPCC #18

Here is my layout for this weeks color challenge on the SPCC blog.
The color combo this week is pretty, but I struggled a bit with the blue. I am just not into navy blue or blues similar to it, so I used it sparingly.

Here is the combo this week and my layout is shown above:

Things are slowly coming along with the K12 program. It's AWESOME! and I love the freedom to work at our own pace and really dig into the things Ashlyn is struggling with. She missed SO MUCH school last year and is struggling, but I do know that even though we are not making the progress I would have liked, she is learning and that is golden. Math and Literature are her area's of weakness so I have been spending extra time working with her. She understands what she is reading, yet finds it difficult to express in writing, so we are woking hard at that. Math has always been a struggle, but she's a trooper and is working hard to try to understand. We are getting ready to wrap up our first Math unit and I cannot tell you how excited I am about the next one because it should be fairly easy for her and I am hopeful that we can double up on most of the days and bust this unit out. Today we completed 2 math lessons and although it was time consuming, we both felt pretty good.
I will add that yesterday was one of those days where I seriously questioned what on earth I was thinking in doing this. lol I just put the books up and we did our own thing and that seemed to make things a whole lot better.... that and a good nights rest.
She is having some more issues with her colitis (well, I should say "non-specific" colitis at this point). She has missed a few of her pills with being sick and me working and it's affecting her. It really makes me wonder how things are going to go in December when there is a trial period for her to go off the meds for 3 weeks. Yikes. I will just have to hope and pray that everything goes well for her, but that's still about two months out so I am trying not to think about it. Not a good time of year to be sick and having a dr. 5 hours away.
Well I am off to bed. Take care,
Rae

Hectic lately

'many thanks' card
supplies:
cs: Bazzill
pp and chipboard: Fancy Pants Designs
twine
rubons: De Ja Views

It's been hectic around here lately. Ashlyn's school books and materials finally arrived a week ago today, so this week has been spent trying to get into a routine. We haven't done too bad; Monday she only made it through Math, Language, Spelling and Literature. Tuesday was a little better, but we still only managed to make it through the same classes. We never hit Art on Monday, nor Science on Tuesday. And History, well, we never had a chance to think about it either day. It's hard to spend all day working with her on schoolwork and then turn around and work from 4-10pm. I could really use a few extra hours each day. lol
Wednesday and Thursday we took off because we were both ill. Everyone of us here has this crud that is going around. Skye missed 5 days of school and I had to call in sick Wed. night. I hate that, but at least I can recover before tomorrow.

Today we made more progress, but we worked until 4PM. Thankfully I am off tonight. We will catch up this weekend sometime. I am really not stressed about it, we will make it up in time, so things will all be OK. I truly enjoy being able to work with her and spend the extra time with her on what she is struggling with. She missed so much school last year and she is behind, and even in just the few lessons we have worked on, I am already noticing improvement.

It's been weeks since I have scrapped and I managed to throw a card together today using fabulous Fancy Pants Designs products. I have been itching to create, but it's having to take a back burner to school with Ashlyn and work and my family.

Take care,
Rae

some projects from various sites

Hello all! I have several projects to share from different sites today. First is an altered bottle set I created for the Ally Scraps blog using the cute Boo-tiful collection from Nikki Sivils.
I decided to add some lime green tulle around the edges to give it a potiony look. This is by far my most favorite bottle set I have created thus far.

Lastly I have a layout for Mixer 29. I am not overly fond of this layout, but I did step out of my comfort zone. I wanted to try a more artsy look and it looks like a little kid made it. lol. Oh well, they can't all be great, right? Skye really does make the sun shine with her bright and fun personality though, so I did manage to capture that. The DT totally rocked their layouts though. Love each and every one of them.

a Fall banner

I saw this Pink Paislee contest on the Everything Scrapp'n blog and since I had some time to spare, I decided to create a fall banner this morning. I am happy with how it turned out and it's on display in our living room. I was hoping to use some of the new Halloween papers from Pink Paislee, however my order didn't arrive. It must be an omen though because it "forced" me to use my stash. :) It's a random draw for the winners, and there are some great prizes, but even if I don't win I have something that makes me happy.
Be sure to check out the wonderful banners that the other ladies created in the comments on the Everything Scrapp'n blog.
Here is my banner:

Say It With Letters projects

I was digging through some of my stash the other day and came across these fabulous shapes from damoboise designs (Say it With Letters). I have this problem of hoarding certain things, you know, waiting for the perfect paper to come along so they will turn into something spectacular. I decided that now was the time to create something with them (the fact that there is a design team call out gave me the extra push I needed... lol!). I had time and one cannot enjoy something that is not being used, so I grabbed some of my new paper stash and went to town. I am really happy with how they all turned out. I am going to find a place in our home for the house trio and give the cupcake to one of the girls.

supplies:
pp: Basic Grey and October Afternoon
stickers: Basic Grey and Making Memories
die cuts: October Afternoon and K&Co.
pearls: Melissa Frances
buttons
paint

it's hard to see, but the cherry has diamond glaze on it for a shiny effect.
I added some glitter and some pearls:

Wish me luck on making the team. I have applied several times before and never managed to make the cut. Either way it's all good. I am a huge fan of the shapes and if I could I would have them all.
Take care!
