Oma's napkins

I have been stepping out of my comfort zone and expanding my craftiness. I have been wanting to make some cloth napkins for our home for ages, and I finally bought some fabric to do so last weekend. Although I have yet to make any for us, I did make some nice, thick double-sided napkins for my Mother-in-Law who had visited us last week. Her favorite color is Cobalt Blue and her kitchen is pretty much filled with it, so I continued on that path and added a bit of vivid color to the mix. I LOVE how they turned out. I almost didn't give them to her. Seriously.

These photos are not a true-representation of the colors, they are even more rich and vibrant in person. While I don't have enough fabric left to make napkins for us (I bought a yard of each), I do have enough to make some coasters, which I plan to add to my mile-long list of things I want to make. Now that Oma has headed home, my goal is to try to get some of our own made later this week. I think for the most part I am going to make them single-sided which is more practical for our daily use, but I will make a few double-sided for those days I feel like adding a bit of elegance to our "fine" dining.

I am also thinking I might make some to sell. What do y'all think would be a reasonable price to pay for a set like this?

beautiful

It's time for another challenge on the Frosted Designs blog and this one might push you out of your comfort zone- but don;t let that stop you!

The theme is String Art and the design team has created INCREDIBLE projects to share with you! You HAVE to see them. You have to!

Here's mine:

To create this, I simply used Microsoft Word and printed out 'beautiful' in a font and size that would allow me to fill the space.

Next, I cut around the word, then lightly taped to the space I wanted to work in.

Using a paper piercer I poked around the printed word (I felt that this step was the longest and most tedious).

Once I had the word poked/formed to my satisfaction, I began by stitching the outline of each letter until they were all complete. A tip- I did not remove the paper word template that I had used as an outline. There were so many holes and I was afraid I would make a mistake, so I basically peeled back the template paper letter by letter as I completed them.

I then went back and randomly added the "string art" elements to each individual letter. This was the easiest part of the process, and the most fun. It's really cool to see the end result.

I do hope you will give this challenge a try!

Green Scissor Keeper

I made this felt scissor keeper for my mother for Mother's Day. Her favorite color is green and she loves the end result. She is impressed with my skills, lol. I have only the Papertrey Ink stitching dies to thank. *wink*

coin purse

Hi! It's my day to share another project using some of the wonderful crinkle ribbon from 3 Girl JAM.

I made this cute little coin purse for a sweet five-year old girl. The ribbon adds a great finishing detail, and more importantly, adds a little extra assistance to the zipper for little hands (and yes, I did install the zipper backwards. lol).

I used some Dress White crinkle ribbon from the Navy Bundle and double tied it so it wouldn't come undone.

Here is the front:

supplies:
felt and dies: Papertrey Ink
felt rosette: the Curtsey Boutique
white crinkle ribbon: 3 Girl JAM

Mother's Day frame set

It's all about Mom for the newest challenge on Frosted Designs!

Since it is our daughter Kara's first Mother's Day, I wanted to create something special for her. I found this Sculpey clay frame kit at Michael's and decided that this would be perfect.

It's difficult to see, but there is an imprint of Aubree's foot and hand, at least most of it. lol It's not
easy trying to get an almost 4 month old to open her fist long enough to make an imprint, but aside from missing most of her index finger, it didn't turn out too shabby. :)

Here is the card I made to go along with it:

and here is the complete set:

I hope Kara likes it. I know she will be surprised and not expecting anything, which makes it all the more special.

To enter the challenge, please click here

I would like to take this time to wish all you Mom's out there a very special Mother's Day.
